The leading branded hostel groups have excellent expansion potential, as they
adopt increasingly hybrid formats which allow them to compete with budget hotels, on the one hand, but also with the accommodation rental sector. The key competitive factor for modern branded hostels vis-à-vis either budget hotels or Airbnb is the social, party aspect. The branded hostels go to great lengths to facilitate interaction between travellers, providing social spaces, events and tours which allow guests to better experience the destination.
